Currently I don’t know of a way to upgrade back to WMP12 from WMP11.
I am not held responsible should you break your system following these steps. I am now documenting the same steps on my main laptop. I have followed it step by step in my Windows 7 virtual machine and everything worked perfectly. This entire procedure is based on this article.
